Drive Math Reasoning From Whole-to-Part - Chris Woodin
Drive Math Reasoning from Whole-to-Part
A student who is confused by typical math instruction can excel when instructed in a way that always shows the big picture first, uses visual-spatial images, and directly examines how the parts are connected to the whole. This program is quite different from how most of us were taught math, and it is different from most modern curriculum approaches as well. A variety of whole-to-part graphic organizers will be presented that model whole number and fraction concepts and procedures, word problems, and equations. The methodology to be presented enables such comparison by limiting demands on language processing, working memory, and executive function skills.

Getting Good at Stress: Empowering Self to Reduce Anxiety - Sucheta Kamath - Founder & CEO of ExQ
We all are trying to do our best in these persistent pandemic conditions, which means we are experiencing unprecedented challenging times marked by an avalanche of uncertainty. As budding and seasoned clinicians reassess and readjust their ongoing approach to a work-life balance, considerations must be given to the fact that individuals are under enormous stress and are rarely given the opportunity to explicitly discover their personal strengths and challenges, take a deep dive into faux-pas or failures, and have guidelines to know how to improve productivity and self-efficacy during stressful conditions. In this presentation, Sucheta will discuss how implementing realistic and effective stress-busting strategies and by focusing explicitly on strengthening executive function and mindfulness skills including adaptative flexibility, interpersonal connectivity, and growth mindset, can help us see that there’s an upside to stress and getting good at stress is possible.

Welcome to the Dyslexia Narrative and Keynote Presentation from Dr. David Kilpatrick - Recent Advances in Understanding Word-Level Reading Problems: Implications for Instruction and Intervention
The Dyslexia Narrative Day One Morning Session 9 AM - 11 AM

9 AM - David Kilpatrick - Recent Advances in Understanding Word-Level Reading Problems: Implications for Instruction and Intervention
This session will focus on how children learn to read words and why some children struggle. Understanding the nature of word-level reading development and word-level reading problems will guide both instruction and intervention. Studies consistently show that the most commonly used intervention approaches provide limited benefits for weak readers. However, other studies have shown that some approaches can yield very large reading gains for such students, and these will be the focus of the presentation.
